Even in an industry overflowing with charismatic people, Alana Rey’s personality stands out. The Colombian Stripchat brand ambassador is brilliantly vivacious and playful, with a smile that could light up any room. She radiates infectious positivity, even when she’s discussing the challenges of her past. Between her magnetism and fascinating life story, it’s no wonder she helped inspire a movie. With the new Stripchat feature from Jeffrey John Hart and Holly Randall, called CAM GIRL, she’s ready to enter the spotlight.

After eight years as a Stripchat model, Rey has a lot to share and she can’t wait to reveal new details she’s never given fans before: “I think they are going to feel more connected to me and that makes me very happy because they deserve to know,” she says with sincerity and excitement.

From Model To Movie Star

Rey never expected to become an actress, let alone star in a film so reflective of her life. Coming from humble beginnings in Medellin, Colombia, making even a comfortable income has been a dream come true. Camming has brought her out of poverty and taken her around the world, traveling with Stripchat as a brand ambassador.

That’s how she met acclaimed director Jeffrey John Hart. The two connected at Bucharest Summit in Romania. When Hart reached out to offer Rey a role in his upcoming Stripchat-funded feature CAM GIRL, she didn’t think twice: “I said yes literally without asking anything because I trust his vision so much!”

Hart was inspired by models like Rey when he first pitched the movie: women from impoverished areas who’ve been able to gain wealth and stability via camming. Despite being an anthology film that approaches the career from many angles, the rags to riches element was never optional for Hart. He needed Rey’s perspective to fulfill the vision, wanting to spotlight her home city of Medellin in particular. Her character even shares her name.

Unfortunately, pre-production hit a snag when Rey realized CAM GIRL would include partnered adult scenes, something she’s never done as a cam model. It was a crushing decision. “I thought I wouldn’t be able to be in the movie,” she recalls.

In fact, when she expressed her doubts, Hart almost called the movie off entirely. He remembers how he felt when it happened: “I almost had a full-blown panic attack because there was no one else who could play that role at all.”

Thankfully, it was an easy fix for both. Rey’s sex scene was solo, something Hart was happy to accommodate.

Life Imitates Art

Rey and her character have striking similarities beyond the shared name. Both grew up in the favelas of Medellin, Colombia. It’s an area with limited opportunities where extreme poverty is the norm, something that defined Rey’s life from the start. Like her character, Rey worked a series of underpaid, dead-end jobs before becoming a cam model.

CAM GIRL’s Alana works for a boss at a little mini-market, an experience common in Rey’s old neighborhood. With limited money for commuting, Rey also found herself working any job close enough who would take her, regardless of how underpaid or exploitative it was. “They didn’t pay me, they didn’t respect my time, but I stayed because I was ‘saving money,’” she says.

The differences between Rey and her character are mostly in the details. While Rey did begin camming out of financial need, her situation wasn’t as acutely desperate as the fictionalized version. In CAM GIRL, Alana struggles to afford medicine for her sickly grandfather. In reality, Rey had been searching for a way to pay off her phone “that was stolen, mind you!”

Camming was a great opportunity because, being remote, it was much easier to balance with college. Plus, it paid in USD. “I had this idea of ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna be super rich, first day!’” she remembers. In reality, her escape from poverty required years of hard work and perseverance. Still, it opened a better life for her that had never been possible before, just as it did for her cinematic counterpart.

There’s No Place Like Home

Despite the fictionalization, CAM GIRL feels almost like a bio-doc. Rey was shocked when she realized her character would share her name. Learning that Hart wanted to shoot in her hometown made her feel even more like a celebrity. She flips her hair in playful pride when she remembers her first reaction: “Okay! This is about me!”

It’s an intimate experience inviting work friends into your childhood neighborhood, especially when your life there was so difficult. Over her near-decade of camming, she’s only let one special fan know about her background. Most aren’t even aware she’s Colombian. As much as she values fan connection, the details felt so personal. Working with Hart and the team helped her discover the beauty in that openness.

“I felt like ‘Wow, I’m really going to show a lot of people—random people that don’t know me—where I’m from and my story,’” she shares. “That made me feel really vulnerable, but at the same time it made me feel really proud.”

Rey knows it was a major accomplishment to make it out of her old neighborhood, and it’s one she’s proud to celebrate. Still, she wants to honor her roots. The favelas of Medellin aren’t just places to escape; they’re communities of real people living meaningful lives together despite difficult circumstances. She’s grateful for the success and stability she’s found, but she’d never wish for a different origin.

The love is clear in her voice when she contemplates her past. “I definitely feel blessed to be from that place,” she explains. “It’s rough and it’s super hard to get out of it, but it shaped the way I am now: how strong I am, the way that I see the world, the empathy that I have for the world. That’s definitely something that I wouldn’t change.” She’s also grateful that CAM GIRL captures her home well, portraying the genuine experience of everyday life in that area.

Multifaceted Emotions

CAM GIRL pushed Rey out of her comfort zone in the best way. With years of cam modeling under her belt, she’s no stranger to entertainment. Still, Rey had never acted in a film before, let alone one so emotionally intense. “I had a lot of fun filming the whole movie and it was really challenging because it was my first time acting or being in front of a production like this,” she says.

The explicit scene was relatively easy. Filming with a crew was new, but it was close enough to her camming work that it wasn’t much of an adjustment. The real challenge was the drama. The script required Rey to cry on command, something even experienced actors can struggle with. She didn’t even know where to start: “I was like ‘Oh my God! How am I going to do this? How am I gonna cry?’”

With limited time to shoot, drumming up intense emotions felt dangerous: “I didn’t want to put myself in a mood that would affect me after filming, you know?” She looked up TikTok tutorials and stared in the mirror, willing tears to come. It felt impossible until she remembered to occupy her character as herself, referencing what the fictional Alana was going through.

That got the tears going, but not enough to get all the shots. Eventually, Hart was able to help by sharing his own personal, painful memories. She dramatically hides her face and play-sobs when she remembers now, “I was like ‘Ahhh! Oh my God! Why did you say that?!’ and I started crying like never before!’”

Rey’s missed working on CAM GIRL ever since the crew left. It felt more like being with friends than doing a job. Looking back, the vulnerable scenes are some of her favorite memories despite the difficulty. Crying was hard, but it’s given her new confidence in her skills: “That was the most challenging part, but probably one of my favorites because it helped me to find out that I really can do other things,” she shares. “I can be multifaceted.”

Alana, Free Forever

Now that Rey’s had the experience of acting in CAM GIRL, her future feels brighter than ever. By sharing her story with the world, she’s excited to deepen her relationships with fans. That’s always been her favorite part of working as a cam model. “I just see it as a way to make friends, to meet people from all around the world, which is crazy!” Rey says. “Which is amazing!”

“I love to learn from them when they teach me stuff about their countries or their lives or how different it is. I love that!” she continues. “For example, if one day I make one friend, for me that’s a good day of streaming because it’s like ‘Ooh it’s someone new!’”

It’s hard to imagine she’d ever leave streaming behind, but working on the movie made Rey excited about expanding her skills as well. She’s been dipping her toes into other sorts of modeling, acting in advertisements, and even shooting for Playboy. As she imagines her future, nothing is certain and that’s how she likes it.

“In terms of goals I just want to be happy and free, whatever I’m doing. If I’m a model, if I’m a mom, if I’m a wife, if I’m divorced, if I don’t have a home, if I have ten thousand homes, I just hope to be free and happy,” she concludes. “I can literally be whoever I want!” It’s the best advice she can give to others, too: give yourself room to keep discovering yourself because no one ever stops changing.
