Clips4Sale, one of the largest kink and fetish clip stores online, has just launched C4S+, a subscription streaming service for adult content, AVN reports. The platform offers fans one subscription price to stream clips from the creators who opt in and these creators share a pooled pot, paid out based partly on how much members watch them.
The launch comes after YourVids just unveiled YourFans, a subscription service that allows creators to design customizable subscription tiers, from which they receive 100% of the revenue. Creators also decide exactly what unlocks at each level with members-only videos, early access, photosets, private posts, messaging, promo codes, and badges that follow fans across the site by tier, and the creator.
Clips4Sale’s blog touts similar benefits for creators to connect with their followers, stating that the now-live service offers “a subscription streaming library” that helps introduce them to new people. Read on for more.
What is C4S+?
C4S+ is a subscription streaming tier on Clips4Sale. Subscribers pay one fee to browse and stream clips from creators who have joined. New users get a 14-day free trial. It does not replace individual clip sales and fans can still buy any clip at the price the creator sets, according to the site’s blog. Creators decide which of their clips go into the streaming library. Clips they hold back still appear to subscribers, but locked, and sell at full price. That makes the library a shop window as much as a catalogue.
How Does C4S+ Pay Creators?
Subscription money goes into a shared pool, which Clips4Sale divides among participating creators. The split is based on “multiple factors including but not limited to” watch time. Clips4Sale has not published the full formula. C4S+ earnings are paid on the same monthly cycle as regular Clips4Sale earnings. They sit alongside a creator’s other income streams on the platform: clip sales, tips, chat, pay-per-message and custom orders. Clips4Sale is also offering creators one-to-one setup calls with its Creator Success Team to get their stores into the streaming library.
C4S+ Cost and Conversion to Sales
The subscription price for users is $14.99 a month, but new users can try it free for 14 days. Clips4Sale pitches C4S+ as a discovery tool for fans and a sales funnel for creators. “C4S+ gives users an easier way to browse, explore fetish content and discover creators and stores they might not have discovered otherwise,” Christy Verville, VP of Creator Success at Clips4Sale tells AVN. “For creators, it’s an opportunity to reach a new audience that can be more easily converted into sales.”
The Pooled-Pot Problem
Clips4Sale built its business on selling single clips, one at a time, at prices creators set. C4S+ layers the Spotify model on top: one fee from the fan, one shared pot, split largely by plays. In music streaming, pooled payouts tend to reward the most-streamed artists and leave niche acts with fractions of a cent per play. Volume wins; depth of fandom counts for less.
The focus on volume has many creators on Reddit skeptical about the benefits of Clips4Sale’s new service, especially those who’ve built their profiles on niche interests and tastes. Many earn from small, loyal audiences who pay well for very specific content. A watch-time pool measures attention, not willingness to pay.
Will more clip-based sites continue to add customizable subscription services to their offerings? And will creators and users bite? Wet Ink is following closely.
