Instagram’s Crackdown on Adult Creators Raises Alarm

A

growing number of adult creators are reporting sudden bans and account removals on Instagram, sparking concern across the industry. Many, especially those using OnlyFans, say their profiles were deleted without clear explanations or effective ways to appeal.

Recently CEO Adam Mosseri addressed the growing frustration directly: "They're promoting explicit content," he said. "You can't promote, you can't solicit, so you can certainly be on Instagram, but obviously we have very clear rules about what is and what is not allowed on the platform." He clarified that the bans aren't about having an OnlyFans account, but rather what creators post on Instagram itself. "We don't allow nudity, for instance, and we don't allow solicitation, so they might be unfortunately tripping up some of those rules."

In just a few weeks, dozens of high profile names, including Riley Reid, Gianna Dior, and the studio Team Skeet have reportedly lost accounts or backups. The crackdown has also hit businesses. Sexual wellness brand Bellesa saw its Instagram account, built over a decade and followed by more than 700,000 users, deleted without warning, highlighting how even large, established platforms are not immune.

Many creators also report being banned through “association,” where multiple accounts tied to the same person are removed at once. With moderation increasingly driven by AI, enforcement appears broader and less transparent than ever.

The biggest frustration remains the lack of clarity. Users describe vague or conflicting reasons for bans, and in some cases, content flagged as violations is later restored while accounts stay permanently deleted. For creators who rely on Instagram as a primary marketing tool, the impact is immediate. Years of work can be erased overnight.

As platforms tighten control over adult adjacent content, creators are being forced to adapt or disappear. One question remains. How do you follow rules that no one clearly defines?
